New Name but Same Game

AJ Harris
Most people know the Cincinnati Knights class of 2015 team as one of the more feared teams in the nation with their talent, team chemistry, and toughness. This year things have changed a little for the old Knights, but most things have remained the same.

No longer known as the Cincinnati Knights, Coach Glen Galemmo made the decision to go underneath the umbrella of the King James Shooting Stars, one of two Nike sponsored teams in Ohio AAU. Playing as a King James team gives the team more opportunities for exposure and more credibility amongst national recruiting/scouting pundits.

The core of the team remains the same however. PG Amos "AJ" Harris (Dayton Dunbar), wing Luke Kennard (Franklin), and center Nate Fowler (Cincinnati Moeller) are still the big three for Coach Glen while fellow stars like guard MaCio Teague (Florida IMG Academy), point guard Isaiah Jones (Cincinnati Northwest), wing Kyle Ahrens (Versailles), and forward Jaquayles Matlock (KY Hopkinsville) make up the rest of the rotation along with sharpshooter Bubba Galemmo (Cincinnati Moeller).

This past weekend CPHR had a chance to watch the 15u King James team dominate two area teams in their host tournament while playing up in the 16u division, something that Coach Glen plans on doing for most of the season. Below are links to some highlights of the team's top performers from the two games:

Moore to Open Up Recruitment

Willie Moore
After taking some time to weigh his options Cincinnati Aiken senior combo guard Willie Moore, ranked by Triple Double Prospects as the top shooting guard in the state of Ohio in his class, has decided to re-open his recruitment.

Moore had previously signed a letter of intent to go to Duquesne Univeristy, an Atlantic 10 school in Pittsburgh, but has decided to de-commit and ask for his full release while the school searches for a new head coach. Former head coach Ron Everhart and his staff, including Cincinnati native Rodney Crawford who recruited Willie, were fired by the university on March 23rd.

"Duquesne is still at the top of my list," the 6'3 guard told CPHR on Thursday, "I just want to open up my recruitment to see what my other options are."

Moore said that he would like the new Duquesne staff, who is expected to be hired next week to re-recruit him. With several of their top players already having transferred out Moore would more then likely be a starter and one of the top players on the team next year if he does end up at Duquesne.

In the brief time frame since his decision to ask for a release Moore said that his AAU coach has already received calls from several interested schools. That list includes Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee Tech, Fairleigh Dickenson, and more.

It is still unclear whether Duquesne administration has given Moore a full release to talk to any school or if they have restricted him from talking to other schools from the Atlantic 10 conference. Since Moore has signed a letter of intent with the Dukes the school does have the option to make some restrictions on his release.

"I'm just going to listen to what everyone has to say," Moore said, "The main thing that everyone has been telling me is to take my time and see what opportunities come my way. If Duquesne is the best fit for me then I'll go there and be excited about it. That's going to depend on what my relationship with the new coach looks like. Until then I'm open to any school calling."

Recruiting Notes
  • '12 Middletown PG/SG Geovonie McKnight has added interest from Tennessee Tech, Nebraska, and Georgia State over the last two days. McKnight plans on making a decision soon and already has interest from Morehead State, Toledo, Kent State, Eastern Kentucky, Winthrop, Miami (OH), and Fairleigh Dickenson.
  • '12 Moeller SG Ben Galemmo has verbally pledged to Division II Wayne State in Nebraska.
  • '12 Mason SF Darrin Harris has committed to Division II Wheeling Jesuit (WV).
