Cincinnati Lakers 15u Takes 10th at Nationals

One month after wining the Ohio AAU State Championship the Cincinnati Lakers went down to Little Rock, Arkansas and placed 10th at the AAU National Championships. Looking back to last year this Lakers squad lost Ohio's top '14 PG in Tyonte Robertson (Withrow) and just kept on moving. The team also does not have the height to match most elite teams in its age group, but again they just kept on moving. Their depth, intensity, and togetherness led them to the placement stages where they've earned bragging rights as a top ten team nationally, and still the best team in Ohio at their age group; although CPHR would LOVE to see a showdown between them and the King James Shooting Stars 15u team!

Team: Mike Barwick (Summit PF), Martin Jones II (Winton Woods PF), Daniel Cage (Winton Woods C), Eric Eichler (Lakota East PF), Robert Caldwell (Dayton Stivers PG), Jeff Larkin (LaSalle PG/SG), Armand Walker (Summit SG), Erend Long (Fairfield SG), Herman Brunis (Fairfield SG), Matt Kittell (St. Xavier SF)

  1. That's wonderful for the Lakers 15U Team to finish 10th out of 44 for the 2011 AAU Nationals. Where were all the teams this year. Last year this group had 119 teams in 2010 and the Lakers lost in the first round of the championship bracket and the second round of the 1st round consolation bracket,.

  2. To Anonymous: Now you know that in 9th grade 15U no one (well the top teams) don't go to the AAU Nationals in Little Rock, Arkansas. They go to the top tournaments like Adidas Take 5 (IN), Eddie Ford (KY), Triple S. Harley (WV), The Fieldhouse (IN), Adidas 64 (NV) and Double Pump (CA) to be seen by the College Coaches looking for future stars.

  3. True that many 15u teams elect to go to tournaments where more college coaches will be, 15u is the worst national format because it isn't tied in with the Super Showcase like 16u and 17u.

But the Lakers could only play against the other teams in the field, it wasn't like they chose their opponents. 10th in the country is always going to be impressive.

  5. Im curious why you want to see a showdown between king james and the lakers when Ohio Varsity beat KJ by 25,all ohio red by 12, the tar heels TWICE,cbiz, tqc, royals TWICE,shining stars by 30, and finished 6-1 and NINTH at nationals, the only loss was by 3 pts by the way...is your criteria for the best team in OHIO based on states ONLY???? i mean i know this is the CINCY prep hoops report but man o man show all of ohio SOME love...you were at the game at states cory, who did YOU think the better team was?....ill wait...lol

  6. First of all I was not at the championship game, I left after the 16u semi's to go watch the 17u championship. So all I know is the result.

Ohio Varsity has an excellent team! But, the reason I said I'd like to see KJ match with the Lakers is because it's more of a contast. To me OV and the Lakers are very similar becuase they take under the radar kids and play so hard and so well together that they win everything.

With their recent additions I think that King James has the most talented team in Ohio at 15u, but I'm just talking purely prospects.

As for best team in the state, correct me if I'm wrong but OV and the Lakers have only played once this season, and the Lakers won that game. I think that is unbiased towards Cincinnati kids to say that they're better, until you meet again then who knows.

  8. Let be real, if the Lakers 15u get players from all over Ohio like KJ or All Ohio, these teams will not be in the same class with the lakers. KJ get players from KY to play against the lakers. The Lakers is just missing two bigs and they will kick everybody butt.

After winning three straight state title in a row, you would think they are the team to beat. (Correction I know they are the team to beat). The fact is the fact so give the lakers their respect please. When Northland make it to the state three times in row poeple said they was a powerhouse school. What about Duke, Florida, Chicago Bulls, LA LAkers and Boston they were label dynasty team. So,Cincy Lakers is a dynasty team in OHIO.
